When kids cut their hair

It is a special moment when your tiny little girl sits at the hairdressers and has her hair cut like the big girl that she is now. I was worried that she would hate the ‘Tinkerbell’ fringe that she had requested after weeks of telling me that she wanted to grow her hair like ‘Rapunzel’. It all went well though until the next day where after playing hairdresser with her hairclips and combs I heard a loud bang from the other end of the house. I ran to see if she was ok and found her sprawled on the floor in my bedroom having fallen off her small stool that she is supposed to use to reach the bathroom sink but had apparently used to reach up on to the top of a five drawer high dresser. Sitting there half cuddling her from her fall and half scolding her for climbing when she shouldn’t I spotted the chunk of soft blonde hair sitting discarded on the dresser.

What have you done?!

Hair

My 3 year old had decided to cut her own hair! This brought back vivid memories of when I did the same thing, though I was around 5 years old and managed to hide it from my mum for at least half a day before I refused to take my hat off when I saw her in the school tuckshop. I can’t even remember why I did it but I remember that feeling when my Mum saw the chunk I had hacked from my fringe. Somehow I couldn’t find where she had cut the hair from which either means her hairdresser the day before did a horrible job or my daughter may be a budding hairdresser herself. I just hope I instilled enough fear or disappointment in my daughter that like me, she will never ever cut her own hair again!
