The magic of princesses
My daughters favourite thing at the moment are Princesses. Everyday she decides to play Princesses. Crowns are made with glitter, sparkling plastic jewels and random adornments from the craft boxes. Old silk scarves are draped carefully over the head as a veil. A pretty dress is chosen and then worn over trackie-daks and jumpers because it is still winter. And of course several necklaces complete the full Princess look. Then everyone has a role – the side kick, the prince, the wicked witch, the horse, the dragon. And if there aren’t enough people, or dogs, in the house then the toys are recruited to join in. This make believe game can last all day, sometimes swapping roles, and look out if you break out of character. If it’s not role play then its colouring in princesses or watching a princess movie. So imagine the delight on her face when we took her to Disney Princesses & Heroes on Ice!
No really, imagine it. Her eyes were sparkling, her cheeks rosey, the pure wonder and joy on her face when she saw Tinkerbell wave her magic glittery wand and when she saw her Princesses gliding around on the ice was nothing short of magic. Then my heart melted when she looked at me with such joy and exclaimed – Mum, did you see that, she was waving right at me! She sat on the edge of her seat for the entire show, waving her wand, adjusting her crown and delighting in the magic of princesses.
Lucky Daddy then had to spin her around above his head just like they did in the show. Faster! Higher! Just like this Daddy! Thankfully this only lasted a couple of weeks as I am not sure that Daddy was ready to turn into a permanent ice skating, princess lifting, spinning prince just yet.
