Love in Thailand

lovin' thailandToday, 13 years ago, a good friend of mine became my boyfriend. Today, 7 years ago, we were in Thailand when he became my fiancé. (Yes, we did get married but that holds no significance to today’s date.) It is this sort-of anniversary that we sometimes like to celebrate and today it reminded me of Thailand and the time that we have spent there. While this was about Love in Thailand, it sort of turned in to be about Lovin’ Thailand, and what is not to love.

It’s Affordable – The cost of living in Thailand is lower than any western country. Holidaying is a different story as everyone knows that things are marked up for tourists and that when you are on holiday you do things you wouldn’t normally do which will add to the cost of things but even considering this it is still a cheap holiday option - if you want it to be.

The Food – Oh my goodness, the food. Thai food is so full of flavor and if you do it right, it is really fresh. I wouldn’t go so far as saying it is healthy food because while there are lots of healthy options there is also a lot of frying. But who cares, it’s delicious! When in Thailand, fresh fruit shakes are a daily staple. All day grazing is fairly common for us too especially since there is food available pretty much wherever you go and there are so many different things to try.

Spiritually Cleansing – Probably everyone you have ever spoken to that has been to Thailand has said something along the lines of this. And this doesn’t just refer to Buddhism. I think that the ambience of Thailand creates some sense of peace and happiness in you. It may be the relaxed nature of the people, everyone’s smiles, their helping nature. It could even be attributed to the beauty of the landscapes both inland and on the coast. Whatever it is there is a little bit of magic there as you take the time to slow down, savour the small things and cleanse your soul.

Beautiful Sites – Thailand is a beautiful country that stretches from stunning coastlines with pristine beaches and amazing reefs, through forests, over mountains and meanders around some incredible manmade marvels and cities and towns. Take your pick at what you want to immerse yourself in, as there seems to be a little of something for everyone.

Yes, there are some things that aren’t quite so loveable but today I’m not going to focus on those. I’m going to enjoy thinking about all the wonderful things I love about Thailand. If you have ever been, what do you love about Thailand? If not, would you like to go and why?
