Down the Rabbit Hole
Kids love cubbyhouses and it’s fun to build them and watch their minds play in a make believe world full of wonder and delight. Until it collapses and all their dreams tumble down around them in a pile of pillows and blankets. I always found it annoying trying to figure out how to get the sheets to stay up.
So I pulled out my box of leftover pieces of material, my sewing machine and drew a mud-map of what I wanted to make. And this is what I came up with. An all in one sheet that I can simply throw over our dining table and we have an instant cubbyhouse.
I made a house with a couple of windows with organza for gauze and cute little pink curtains to tie back; a stripy easy access doorway; and a letterbox with a pouch for special deliveries.
You could do anything though – maybe a firehouse or a mechanics workshop would be great for boys. Let your imaginations run wild and try to pick a theme you think your kids would love.
I don’t really have any instructions on how to make it. Just measure the dimensions of your table and sew the pieces together. And add whatever embellishments you want to.
