Birthday Goodness
Today was my darling husband’s 30th birthday. Leading up to the big day I had a lot to prepare. My first mistake was giving all the awesome gift ideas to everyone else and spending a lot of time researching and giving details on just exactly what he would love. Then I realised that I had to come up with something equally amazing to give him from me. I didn’t want to get the same old boring gifts that he gets every year – namely books, clothes, bike gear. I wanted something a bit more significant for the big 3-0. So I gave him the world.
Sounds a bit corny I know but I gave him a globe of the world and a great men’s weekender bag for all his travelling around it and of course it wouldn’t be a mans-man pressie without a good bottle of whisky. Mission successful. He loved it.
My 3 year old decided he wanted carrots. Yes, carrots. So she took me off to Bunnings and filled her cute little trolley with seedlings for carrots, rainbow silverbeet, corn, a kaffir lime tree because she was very observant and heard daddy talking about this, and of course some flowers because who doesn’t love flowers. She lovingly picked out each plant and looked after them all week. Somehow, they remained a secret and he was not only surprised but over the moon with the gift as he loves to grow our own produce and share this experience with little miss 3.
There is nothing as sweet and special as hearing your children say your name, or rather your title, for the first time. So for his birthday Miss 6 months said Dad for the first time. It was such a special moment to see. She has been trying to wrap her mouth around it for a week or so and then today, of all the fabulous days to pick, she turned and saw him and gabbled ‘DAD’. I’m not sure who’s face lit up brighter, hers or his.
What’s a birthday without cake? Not a birthday I say. So for breakfast I made everyone these adorable bacon and egg toast cupcakes, which you can read more about here. And the main event was a white chocolate and pistachio cheesecake with pomegranate syrup. Of course this is one amazing cake so it deserved a post all of its own just over here.
All in all the day was a raging success and now I need to come to terms with the fact that it’s my turn soon.
