Around My Home - Miss 3′s Room

We were old fashioned when we had our first child and never found out what sex we were having. We loved the anticipation. And while everyone around me seemed to lament having to figure out how to decorate the nursery and what clothes to buy, I really didn’t mind. I was happy to buy white clothes, knowing that we would be showered in gifts when the baby arrived. The nursery came easily too.

We wanted a nice bright and airy room so we chose white furniture and a natural wooden chair with a chocolate brown seat cushion. Above the head of the cot I delicately hung my bridal veil to soften the room. I then designed a tree and traced it onto a big sheet of plywood and set my wanna-be-handy-man husband to task with a borrowed jigsaw to cut out my intricate pattern. After a couple of days of sanding the edges it was finally ready to be painted in a lovely deep apple green. I also made a couple of red birdhouses to hang from its branches for a pop of colour. If it were a girl I would adorn the tree with butterflies; for a boy, monkeys.

When our beautiful baby girl arrived the room quickly filled with all things pink, frilly and girly. In her 3 short years she has already collected so many special memories and her room reflects her adventures. Our year living in Thailand has certainly made an impact and she has a few favourite things to remind her of the time we spent there. Her name is ‘up in lights’ above her bed and her passion to return to Paris is ever present as well.

FairyLights Doll & Teddy

Now that she is old enough to take responsibility I have given her my childhood treasures. A beautiful doll dressed in my mum’s handmade clothes that still show stains from my play days. And then there is ‘Teddy’. Yes that’s with a capital T. He was given to my eldest brother, and then he was passed down to each child, until 4th in line, he was finally mine. And with me he stayed, until now, passed on to my daughter, ready to watch another generation of playtime. Imagine the stories he could tell.
